Election Commission Bans Hoardings: The Election Commission of India has sent a notification to all states to clear the photos of Political leaders from Hoardings before the polls. It said that the poll machinery in the five poll-bound states has to clear or cover the political leader’s photos on all the Hoardings and advertisements.

The Election Commission said that between February 4th and March 8th there takes place the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur. The removal of Hoardings seeks to protect the achievements of any living political functionary or political party. The poll watchdog said photos in advertisements or hoardings of similar type should also be removed or “covered suitably” so that spirit of its instructions is fully complied with.

The Election Commission made it clear about the hoardings that set by the government which will convey the general message to the mass of people on family planning or any other social welfare schemes can be allowed to be displayed. The government gave a statement about this issue that “However, all those hoardings, advertisements which seek or purport to project the achievements of any living political functionary or political party and which carry their photos or name or party symbol should be removed forthwith……No political party or functionary can use public resources and incur or authorize expenditure from public exchequer to eulogize himself or itself or enhance his/its own or any political leader’s image,” the poll panel of Elections has made it clear about the advertising that such images or hoardings “undoubtedly amount to their individual/party election campaign at public cost”.

It is said that the elections for the states Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur will hold the polls between the dates of February 4th to March 8th. The polls dates of the stated will be lie in between those days. Before the poll begins all the photos of the respective party leaders or any advertisements of the party must be stopped and removed as per the Election Commission orders to all the States.
