Former Coal secretary HC Gupta and retired public servant L S Janoti were granted bail on Tuesday by a special court which has been specially fixed for the coal scam case. They were caught because they were found to be irregular in allocation of Bander coal block in Maharashtra.

Special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar permitted the plea filed by counsel who appeared for former Minister of State for Coal Santosh Bagrodia who was also summoned as the accused in the case. He was not present due to health grounds. Senior advocate N Hariharan, who appeared for Bagrodia said that his client is around 75 years old and is also suffering from ailments due to which the doctor has advised him complete rest.
He promised the court that Bagrodia would appear before it on the next date of hearing. The court allowed the plea and fixed the matter for further hearing on the 8th of September. , Gupta and Janoti, who were summoned as accused in the case on July 21 also appeared before the court and moved their respective bail pleas. The court also granted them bail.
