SEGA is bringing Sonic back to the Wii and DS this holiday season. This time around, Dr. Eggman has built an interstellar amusement park (great guy, right?) while also kidnapping alien beings called Wisps and using their colorful energy for his evil-doing (not so nice).
This game does away with the strange gimmicks that Sonic has been prone to and focuses on speed and platforming. The colored Wisps work as power-ups for Sonic to help him traverse through the levels. As SEGA's fact sheet puts it:
The Wisp energy enables Sonic to create new paths through the stages by drilling through the ground (Yellow Drill) for example, or speeding through the stage as a laser (Cyan Laser). Stringing the Wisp power-ups together creates a combo that increases Sonic's boost gauge even more quickly and exclusive Wisp power-ups will be available for both Wii and Nintendo DS versions, ensuring a unique and super speedy gameplay experience for Sonic fans everywhere.
Only time will tell if this will be the Sonic game to win fans back, but in the meantime, have a look at the teaser trailer above and screenshots below for yourself.
