Last year at CES Nyko introduced their Wii Remote killer, the Wand. The Wiimote alternative introduced Trans-Port Technology, allowing Wiimote buttons to be automatically remapped to buttons on other Nyko accessories, including its gun controller.
At this year's CES, Nyko has introduced the Wand+, which includes built-in MotionPlus support. That means no more bulky dongles to plug into your Wiimotes to gain enhanced motion controls.
Available in March for $39.99, the Wand+ offers a great value for those looking to pick up extra Wiimotes and MotionPlus. Nintendo currently sells Wiimotes for $39.99 and MotionPlus for an additional $19.99. Those purchasing Nyko's Wand+ essentially get MotionPlus, in a compact form, for free.
No word yet from Nintendo on whether they will adjust the price of MotionPlus to...free...to compete with Nyko, but our sources tell us this is unlikely.
When Nintendo launched MotionPlus last June, it aimed to bring more accurate motion controls to all Wii owners, creating an expansion device that could easily integrate with existing Wiimotes. However, Nintendo has yet to upgrade new Wiimotes to incorporate MotionPlus. With Nyko's Wand+ announcement, it may put new pressure on Nintendo to do so.
