After all the rumors, numerous retail ads, and constant speculation from analysts, the Wii will finally receive its first price drop.

Nintendo announced Wednesday that it will be officially dropping the price of the hit home console to $199.99 starting September 27, 2009.  In their press release, Nintendo notes that the console bundle will be packaged the same; it will contain a Wii Remote, Wii Sports, and a Nunchuk.

"Wii has reached more video game players than any game system before because it attracts everyone-both men and women, and people of all ages... Our research shows there are 50 million Americans thinking about becoming gamers," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

"This more affordable price point and our vast array of new software mean many of them can now make the leap and find experiences that appeal to them, whatever their tastes or level of gaming experience."

To add to that gaming experience, new and old console adopters can look forward to Wii Fit Plus (releasing October 4) and New Super Mario Bros. Wii (November 15), the two main first-party titles to release this year.

Japan will see the price cut on October 1, according to Kotaku.  The system price on that side of the globe will be going "from 25,000 (USD$273) to 20,000 (USD$218)."

The big question, people: what impact will this have for Nintendo and on the entire home console front?
