House of the Dead: Overkill didn't go over well in North America. MadWorld, infamously, fizzled out. The Conduit? Not quite the sales everyone was expecting. Devoted Wii gamers have reason for being depressed when good games don't sell like they'd hope.
The real question is whether the publisher funding these games is going to turn and run now. Surprisingly, SEGA's Mike Hayes says "no," as Joystiq reports. The company won't stop with the decidedly core games. Plus, when is comes to The Conduit, he is quite positive:
"We actually regard The Conduit as a success... We shipped 300,000 units, sold through half of those and now it's at the point where it's selling consistently at a time when Wii sales are generally depressed in the marketplace."
Hayes took time to note to Wired that House of the Dead: Overkill did sell well in Europe, indicating a good future for their games, regardless of poor MadWorld sales. The company "would be extremely arrogant to have a title that didn't do as well as we thought on a platform and then say, 'Those kind of games don't sell on that platform.'"
In other words, someone is buying these games. And as long as there are fans, SEGA will cater to them. Well played, Hayes. Well played. |
