Metroid Prime Trilogy Won't Use Corruption Save File

By Mike Suszek / Thursday, 13 August 2009

IGN posted some unfortunate news for some Wii owners today.  It seems that gamers that have played Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that plan on using their save file for the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy will have guess again: Your Metroid Prime 3 save file is incompatible with Metroid Prime Trilogy.

It may seem like this applies to only a few people, but there are a good amount of gamers who's first trek with Samus was in the final game in the trilogy.  Metroid Prime Trilogy, releasing on August 24, is a great way for gamers, those that didn't already start out on the Gamecube, experience the whole first-person tale.

What caused this problem?  Lead game designer at Retro Studios, Mike Wikan, told IGN that "due to the way the game data is allocated for production and the changes that we made in the source code, we were unfortunately unable to carry over the save file compatibility from MP3 to Trilogy."

What do you do in a situation like this?  Let us help.  Here are your options:

  • Go play the Gamecube games and keep your copy of Metroid Prime 3.  Not only is the first Metroid Prime arguably the best, but any excuse to bust out that delicious Gamecube controller is a good one.
  • Man up and pick up the trilogy.  You've got the refined Wii controls from the third game, an extra (albeit thin) layer of polish, and some replay options like a trophy system to boot in this value pack.  You'll forget everything you did in the third game by the time you rock the first two anyways.  So, there's no pain in replaying it.

Is this a deal-breaker for anyone?  Who is planning on getting the trilogy?
