Wii MotionPlus Hands-On Video

By Mike Suszek / Thursday, 25 June 2009

One day before Nintendo's E3 2008 press conference, I received a text message.  It was Nintendo (seriously, a media alert), letting me know that they plan on improving the motion control that made the Wii famous through a new device.  Truly, the highlight of last E3, and arguably for Nintendo, this one as well, is Wii MotionPlus.

After a year's wait, and anticipation of games like EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Grand Slam Tennis (and the as-yet released sequel to Wii Sports), I got a chance to talk about the device itself.  And I recorded it.

My biggest concern has been the "jiggliness" of the MotionPlus' connector.  Looking into Nintendo's support site, we find that this is intentionally how the MotionPlus is made, and there is "no need for repair" when you find the connector jiggly like the one in the video.

Additionally, many will find that the batteries in your Wii Remote take a big hit with the MotionPlus being used.  Even on Nintendo's site, they note a difference of 10 hours less in the battery life using MotionPlus.

Expect more MotionPlus-related news to come!
