Events like this have housed announcements like Pikmin 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now Zelda can be added to that list.
While gamers have known that a new Zelda has been in the works for the Wii for some time, nothing has been known about it until now. At his E3 roundtable, Miyamoto passed around a new Zelda Wii illustration (which could not be digitally distributed). 1Up seems to describe it best:
Miyamoto briefly showed an image from the game featuring a mature Link barely visible through a broken wall. Although the picture only showed Link from behind, a short girl in a long robe stood in full view at Link's back. Wearing a crystal necklace and emanating a blue aura, she gave off an otherworldly look -- akin to Zora from Ocarina of Time.
Of course, this says almost nothing about the game. But Miyamoto did spill a few details, like saying there will certainly be MotionPlus integration. "Think of Zelda while you're trying some of the archery and sword play in Wii Sports Resort," he said. So why not say something during the press conference?
According to 1Up, Miyamoto's development team "wanted to focus on defining the concept for this Zelda iteration." It seems have been toying with dungeon designs and different gameplay elements like MotionPlus quite a bit. So, they determined that focusing on the game's development would take priority over an E3 demo. This doesn't say much about the progress of the game's development, however.
He is also in tune with Nintendo's design philosophy, "Everyone's Game." Miyamoto said, "There are people who think of Zelda more as an RPG with simpler controls, so trying to figure out how to make everybody happy is something that's going to concern me."
What do you think? Should Nintendo keep Zelda the way it is, or would you welcome MotionPlus controls as Link?
Update: According to Bitmob's Dan Hsu, the new Zelda game for Wii will be shown off at next year's E3 show. There's plenty of time to be speculating, folks! Knowing Nintendo, this may be all we know until then. |
