Poll Study: Wii Storage Solution Satisfies Most Gamers

By Andrew Eder / Friday, 24 April 2009

The Wiire recently polled its readers on the following question:

Are you satisfied with Wii's storage solution?

ps-sdcard

About 62% of those polled seem to be satisfied or very happy with the solution that Nintendo came up with, while the rest (~38%) were less enthusiastic, thinking that it either should have come out a while ago, or wanted a more robust solution such as a hard drive.

Nintendo recently updated the Wii's firmware with an SD card menu, allowing gamers to launch WiiWare or Virtual Console games right from the card, eliminating most concerns about the Wii's relatively small 512MB of storage. SDHC support was also added, meaning that the Wii can now read from SD cards as large as 32GB in size.

The update also included an "auto-manage" feature, which automatically shuffles games off the Wii's internal storage and onto the SD card using parameters of your choosing, since a minimum amount of internal free space is required for games to be playable from the card.

The storage solution seems to be helping developers, too.  Since the late March release of the update, the Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People episodic WiiWare series have seen massive boosts in sales.  In fact, the sales of the games have doubled, according to a TellTale Games press release.
