"In the past we approached the Wii as an extension of what we were doing on PlayStation and the Xbox and I think we can do a better job of creating original content for the Wii, and I think you'll see more of that this year."
While Activision has worked to bring versions of hits like Call of Duty to the Wii, it seems that this changing philosophy on how to treat the Wii could be promising to gamers. This isn't all Kotick addressed, however.
Another issue in the industry is the lasting disparity in console prices to the economy. Activision may not have much to worry about right now, but Kotick believes that gaming hasn't achieved the mass appeal it is capable of. To him, the key is lower costs for gamers:
"The price on platforms today has still not gotten down to mass-market price points... and I think when you're in the economic circumstances that the world has found itself in, there really is a difference between a $199 game system and a $299 game system."
Of course, it can be argued that there's a difference between a $50 game and a $60 game (got that, MTV?). Kotick may raise great points, but some gamers may fear the future for their "original" Wii titles.
After all, we may hear an announcement for a Call of Duty on-rail shooter for the Wii soon. How original.
