The company, called Project Sora (named in association with Sakurai's current company, Sora Ltd.), will begin development on a new Nintendo title. Sakurai notes, "it's not Smash Bros. I asked for... I can promise an experience that's different from anything [you've played] up until now."
The company is looking for 30 individuals to contribute their talents to this project. Nintendo is said to own 72 percent of the new company.
While the news itself may not be new to some of you, the importance is its context. Nintendo appears to have made some strange moves lately. They teased a Metroid spin-off, funded a new R&D facility, announced an updated Classic Controller, keep holding out on MotionPlus, and now a new development studio? Knowing Nintendo, none of this news is related.
Even so, one has to wonder what this new project is. Sakurai makes a point to say that this will be an entirely new experience for gamers. He seems seasoned enough in creating a more "core game" chock-full of features and goods, which should put some minds at ease.
Any guesses?
