MadWorld is an incredibly violent and bloody game. Platinum Games and Sega, those behind the game, have so far played up this aspect of the game, and in doing so, have created a new type of game with a very unique art style. As with most games, MadWorld went through a long process of development, and the art style has been changed many times.

Recently, over on the Platinum Games site, Platinum posted a blog entry about the evolution of MadWorld’s graphics. Among the highlights of this article, include the reasons they chose to go with the black-and-white stylized graphics. An interesting note is that they chose them because instead of going for a more realistic look, they decided to pick a type of style that would stand out among the other games. They also didn’t feel it was to their advantage to compete with realistic fighting games like those found on the 360 and PS3.
Being a fan of both the Sin City movie and comic books, I think this ultra stylized look complements the incredibly violent action. Are you a fan of the style? How about the over-the-top brutality?
