Resident Evil 5 Producer Wants the Wii

By Mike Suszek / Monday, 16 February 2009

kawataResident Evil 5, the most recent numbered-entry in one of gaming's most celebrated survival horror franchises, is infamously not coming to the Wii.  Some time ago, news struck that the Wii wouldn't even be able to handle the title screen for RE5.  And while Resident Evil 4 had an amazing run on both the Wii and Gamecube, Nintendo hasn't gotten an amazing amount of Resident Evil love from Capcom, outside of Umbrella Chronicles and and few remakes for Japan.

Hopefully this glimmer of hope will blossom into a new, Wii-exclusive game.  Resident Evil 5 Producer Masachika Kawata recently delivered this beacon of hope by saying, "Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family... At the moment we don't know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space."

The best thing that could happen for all gamers isn't a weak port of Resident Evil 5 to the Wii (as some may consider the Dead Rising port), but a unique game built from the ground up for the system.  Now, if only every company could hear this.
