With the losses coming to the tune of $641 million, Electronic Arts will be bringing core properties like Dead Space to the Wii. Riccitiello also noted that the Dead Space game for Wii is "absolutely going to be the quality of fear factor of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions." According to MTV Multiplayer, the "implied timeframe was some time in the next year or so" for the game to appear on the console.
Notably, EA will be bringing core properties, which leaves the door open for Wii versions of hit games like Mirror's Edge, Left 4 Dead, or games they've had their hands in on the retail front, like a Wii version of Portal (it may be a stretch, but a guy can dream).
However, based on the philosophies of Electronic Arts, we may have to keep dreaming for Wii versions. The EA CEO elaborated on this marketing philosophy in terms of "buckets." In his eyes, there are three buckets in this gaming generation: Online games, Wii titles, and Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. Riccitiello considers "the lion's share of titles developed for [the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 to be] common."
He adds, "We're proud to have great marketing partnerships around key exclusives, but in general, think of us as having those three buckets." And as long as the core properties in question stay out of the "Wii bucket," Wii owners may never see the games they hope to. Then again, this philosophy doesn't seem to be filling EA's money-bucket anytime soon.
What core EA games would you like to see hit the Wii, aside from Dead Space? What features do you think would make them great for this platform?
