2K President Christoph Hartmann says, "We worked closely with Nintendo to make Don King Boxing a unique experience, especially using the Wii Balance Board. It is great for those who love boxing, or those who just want a fun way to get some exercise."
The game will include an intense story mode, over 20 licensed boxers, and real boxing venues like Trump Taj Mahal and Madison Square Garden. The game will also feature "accurate controls" and a seemingly thorough multiplayer system. While the game may be rising from the remnants of a past Venom Games' project called "Don King Prizefighter" that never made it to the Wii (but had the best hype web site possible), the fact that 2K is said to be working closely with Nintendo is promising, considering Nintendo is already working to bring Punch-Out!! to the Wii by July. Logic would tell us that Don King Boxing will offer a unique experience that will justify the rumored $29.99 price point.
But who needs to think on their own when "the King" can do it for them? Don King talks about the game, stating:
"Don King Boxing is not your prototypical boxing game. What we have done here is truly innovative and provocative. Our goal with 2K Sports was to create realistic motions that most closely resemble the actual training regimens of prizefighters for maximum results."
King adds, "It wouldn't surprise me if a future world champion was introduced to the sport through this game. This is where you can get the skills that make for thrills." Based on the trailer below, it seems like those thrills will be worth seeing in late March.
