Harmonix Makes Up For Lost Time

By Andrew Clark / Friday, 30 January 2009

Every week the folks over at Harmonix reserve Tuesdays (Xbox 360s) and Thursdays (PS3s) for releasing downloadable content for Rock Band. It usually comes to 360 and PS3 owners in the form of a three-song track pack, or there is the occasional album released. For the original Rock Band, the only hopes Wii owners had to get any type of DLC was to buy packaged track packs at their local Gamestop. Harmonix has since changed its ways, and hopes to make up for lost time.

On Tuesday Harmonix released six, count ‘em, six tracks for Wii owners. The tracks were from artists such as the Smashing Pumpkins, The Cars, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All of the songs released already existed in the catalog of 360 and PS3 downloadable content, and in a press release reported on by GoNintendo, Harmonix was quoted saying: “Wii fans can expect a rollout of the previously released downloadable content every week until the entire back catalogue of more than 500 songs is available.”

While there are no specifics on when the entire back catalog will be released, this is still a sign of good hope from Harmonix, who has seemed to come a long way since releasing the severely weakened version of Rock Band. If they continue at six songs a week, however, it will take eighty-four weeks to finally catch up, so who knows what their definition of “rollout” is.

Hit up GoNintendo for a full list of the six tracks, as well as a rather strange conversation about the Smashing Pumpkins.
