Nintendo to Offer Health Advice

By Mike Suszek / Wednesday, 28 January 2009

wiibeseNintendo announced Tuesday that they will be rolling out with a service (possibly a channel) for Wii Fit users to access medical advice from health experts.  While the region and time of this release is unknown, Nintendo will be working with NEC Corp, Hitachi Limited, and Panasonic Medical Solutions Company on the project.

Kyodo News elaborates on how the channel will work.  Wii Fit players will be able to send personal health data to Nintendo's health group.  Then, the health care experts "will then e-mail Wii users regarding applicable health recommendations."

Although the thought of wirelessly sending personal health information sounds like enough to make the Department of Health and Human Services cringe, there could be some merit to the service itself.  Seamless access to advice from professional health advisors and doctors seems like a brilliant idea, which is why Web-MD Nintendo deserves credit for stepping up and bringing a service like this into the living room.

And while these injuries may not appear to be directly associated with this bit of news, I'd wager we'll see Wii-Knee as the #1 hit on this service.
