Final Fantasy Creator Wants to do a Wii Game

By Mike Suszek / Tuesday, 20 January 2009

sakaguchiHironobu Sakaguchi, known as the creator of the Final Fantasy series (and owner of over 700 hours of my life), gushed about the Wii to IGN recently.  His studio, Mistwalker, made Blue Dragon, published by Microsoft Game Studios.

When asked whether Blue Dragon would see a Wii release as well in an interview with IGN, Sakaguchi said, "I think the Wii is a wonderful system.  It's very unique, starting with its iconic controllers.  We have no plans at the moment, but I would love to make a Wii game in the future."  With Mistwalker working on Blue Dragon Plus with Ignition Software for the DS, the developer will likely set its sights on the Wii in the near future.

Sakaguchi also had sage-like opinions of the game industry:

"As the hardware continues to evolve, I think that overall things are progressing for the better. The rising cost of software development has been a problem in the last few years, but I believe that increases in efficiency and development environments have alleviated this problem for the most part. And one thing that will never change is that combined sense of excitement and intellectual satisfaction produced by the real-time interactivity unique to games. And I think that gamers are always thirsting for new ideas. Year after year someone manages to dream up those new ideas, which makes me feel like games will continue to develop well into the future."

The man is a poet.  And the Wii could always use another visionary developer.
