Nintendo and Dentsu Inc, Japan's largest ad agency, recently announced that they will soon offer a Wii video distribution service. According to a Dentsu spokesman, the companies will focus on creating original content specifically geared for this new service instead of offering existing TV shows and movies. The exact content of the videos has yet to be announced, but they hinted that cartoons and other forms of entertainment videos would be offered. Previous analysts seemed to expect broad sets of content, however.
Some of the videos will cost money to watch, while others will be free, but ad-supported. It was not mentioned if the videos would be downloadable (either to internal storage or an SD card), but the nature of the service suggests it will be primarily streaming video, similar to the Nintendo Channel.
The service will launch in Japan next year, while a release date for other territories has yet to be announced.
