Analyst Foresees Zelda in 2009

By Mike Suszek / Saturday, 27 December 2008

In a list of 22 games that could "help drive a 5 percent growth in game sales for 2009," Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian expects that a new installment in the Legend of Zelda series will arrive next year.  Alongside a new game for Link in the list is a new Princess Peach adventure title.

The Zelda series has only seen one game on the Wii, being the acclaimed "Twilight Princess" game that launched with the system, beginning as a Gamecube title.  While there is no confirmation yet on the style and specs of the latest Zelda game, it is clear that gamers can expect it next year.

If the fallout of E3 is any confirmation, Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto already made clear that the Zelda and Mario teams are hard at work, and the DS and Wii Zelda teams are even exchanging ideas.  Even apologies following E3 centered around the notion that Nintendo is working hard on core games, but there wasn't anything great to show off.

So are we certain that a Zelda game could see the light of day in 2009, before Sebastian made his prediction?  Sure, but it always helps to have more folks tell us what we want to hear.
