In celebration of the recent release of Tetris Party for WiiWare, a series of tournaments will commence tomorrow, December 1, where players can compete to win Wii Points. This will be the first time the Wii has seen an online tournament where players can win tangible prizes.
The first tournament comprises of four rounds, with four unique Tetris variants being played. Gamers will compete in Marathon, Field Climber, Shadow, and Stage Racer, in order. The first round, beginning tomorrow, continues through December 15. With endless option off, players must try to obtain the highest score possible in this mode. Players can play this mode as many times as they wish during the round period, as Tetris Party will record their highest score. The tournament ends with round four's Stage Racer challenge on January 31, 2009.
Check out The Wiire's exclusive video detailing the tournament process:
To register for the tournament, gamers have to download a copy of Tetris Party (recommended regardless,) and register at www.tetrisparty.com. During the tournament, players are required to enter a confirmation code given in the game at the Tetris Party site once per round in the tournament.
For this first tournament, 1,200 Wii Points will be awarded to the top 500 scores. And with some of the best digitally-distributed games coming to WiiWare, this is worth the hours of aggressive block-stacking. Don't fret if you come in 501st place, as 2009 will see three other tournaments, on which no other details have been revealed.
Below is the schedule and details of the rounds in the first tournament. Good luck, and happy stacking!
