The beckoning blue glow of the Wii's disc slot lets us know that an update is now available for the system's firmware, bringing it to version 3.4. This update, just like the last few Nintendo has released, doesn't actually offer any significant changes to functionality, but instead checks for and deletes any modified save files found on the system, and points you to an updated Nintendo User Agreement. (You can also read the wall of legal text on Nintendo's website if you really want to.)
The update also changes parental controls, enabled USB keyboard support in the Mii channel, and offers "improved functionality" for the system overall - likely things that a typical Wii owner won't even notice.
System modders will want to avoid the update as it will break any homebrew software that is installed, while everybody else will not notice any difference between this and previous updates. |
