Miyamoto Confirms Pikmin For Wii |

Tonight Nintendo hosted a developers' roundtable for select members of the press to "discuss Wii titles and host exclusive Q&A sessions" with the designers. In the past few years, they've reserved surprises such as Solid Snake in Brawl for roundtables like these, and limiting attendance to a chosen few journalists grants a sense of importance to any discussion that takes place during the event. That importance might have been wishful thinking on gamers' part, especially given how light this year's conference was on announcements, but Shigeru Miyamoto never disappoints in the end. On the subject of hardcore games for the Wii, according to Gamespot's liveblog of the roundtable, at 7:37PM Pacific, he said, "When it's time to announce such a title, I'll announce it. So please look forward to it." Less than a minute later: "We're making Pikmin." More of a confirmation than a surprise, but the revival of the lesser-appreciated GameCube franchise was something many Wii fans were hoping for, and it will be interesting to see how the strategic gameplay is aided by a pointer. |
