According to CNET-owned publication Gamespot, developer System 3 has secured the rights to the Epyx Games library and intends to produce remakes of Impossible Mission and California Games for Nintendo's Wii console. "The way the controllers work and the whole idea of it actually works a lot better than if it's on the PS3 or 360," said System 3 Founder Mark Kale. Impossible Mission and California Games will arrive first on PSP and DS in January and May 2007, respectively. The Wii version of each game is expected to release approximately three weeks after the handheld iteration. As for how much of an update on these classic games System 3 intends to inject, Kale stated, "You gotta keep the gameplay mechanics the same or else it ceases to be the original game and you're only using the game brand to sell games. It ceases to be Impossible Mission or California Games or what have you... What we're doing is we're incorporating the original gameplay and mechanics and bringing the gameplay up to date." Alongside Impossible Mission and California Games, System 3 is also developing Leaderboard Golf and Gottlieb Pinball Classics for Wii, the latter two slated for a November release, though it's unknown at this time if the developer's Wii games will appear on the Virtual Console or as separate retail products.
