The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine has revealed new information regarding the conception, gameplay and story for THQ's upcoming Wii title Deadly Creatures. As reported previously, Deadly Creatures will see players leading a tarantula and scorpion through hostile environments while vying for power among the world's many predators. The lead designer for Deadly Creatures told Nintendo Power that the idea for the game came to him during a dream in late 2006; he found himself playing (via way of the Wii Remote) as a snake slithering in the grass. He later assembled a starting team of eight people, which has now grown to 30. The environments of Deadly Creatures will be large and interconnected, with players able to acquire new skills during navigation. These areas will combine elements of the action-adventure and survival horror genres. The story, purportedly, will be complex and gradually unfold through the game's 10 chapters, primarily through flashbacks. Nintendo Power likened the tarantula to a "ninja" and the scorpion to a "tank". The tarantula will be able to ensnare enemies in webs, use a mid-range pounce attack and grapple using the Wii Remote's pointer. For the scorpion, the Z and B buttons will control the left and right pincers, respectively; pressing the buttons together at certain times will initiate a foe-specific finishing move. Players can sting with the tail by swinging the Wii Remote forward, and swipe the tail with a sideways Wii Remote motion. The C button will block, the A button will lock on to enemies, and dodging can be done with a Nunchuk motion. Rainbow Studios, THQ's internal developer behind Deadly Creatures, aims to release the game before Holiday 2008, so stay tuned to The Wiire for more news. |
