Mark Rein: Not Enough Water in Wii's Well

By Jason Christensen / Wednesday, 09 July 2008
We seriously hope no one has gotten his or her hopes too high in regards to Epic developing for the Wii. Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, creators of the Unreal Engine and the Unreal game franchise, flat out told GameIndustry.Biz that Wii just isn't fit (see what I did there?) for the types of games Epic wants to make.

"That's just not our medium. That's not our area of expertise - our area of expertise is the more high-end consoles and things that push technology higher. That's what we do - there's a lot more water in that well for us, when that runs dry then maybe we'd have to think of doing something else but I don't think that well is going to run dry anytime soon."

Well, excuuuuuuuse Nintendo for thinking about gameplay first instead of high-end technology, Mr.Rein. No worries, though. Wii's legion of epic hackers will find a way to get the legendary Unreal engine working on the system. Right?
