![]() Recently interviewed by GameDaily Biz, Denis Dyack, President of Silicon Knights, discussed his opinions on Nintendo, and the new direction they are taking with the Wii. Overall, Dyack appeared critical of the Wii in the long run, but was quick to praise the success of the Wii thus far. Dyack's main objection with the Wii is it's more casual games, which do not focus on storytelling. Dyack stands firm on his belief that storytelling was and is going to be the driving force behind the industry, and games lacking concrete and well-written stories would only be a cheap thrill, having no lasting value. With a developing record including Eternal Darkness and GameCube's Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Dyack's philosophy has been proven to work, for Silicon Knights at least. Dyack then went on to talk about developing for the Wii, and how it was far more difficult than it appears. He cites the ease of developing for the technical specs of the Wii, but the challenging task of creating good controls for the game. As with a lot of third parties, Dyack and Silicon Knights have had trouble adjusting to the radically new controller, that is so unconventional. To read the whole interview click here. |
