Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata gave a press conference at 2 PM in Japan today to discuss details about Nintendo's newest console, Wii. During the press conference, Iwata revealed the price and launch date of Wii in Japan, what will ship with the system, and the number of launch titles available. Iwata displayed videos demonstrating both Wii and Nintendo's handheld system, the DS.. These videos can be seen on Wii.com, the official Wii Web site. The videos showcase many of Wii's features. Among these is the previously unannounced Mii channel. The Mii channel joins the channels for interactive news and weather in offering dedicated outlets for Wii to provide functionality aside from gaming. The videos for the Mii channel show a player using the Wii Remote, the console's motion-sensing controller, as a pointing device to select various facial structures and features for a digital avatar. It is expected that the avatar will be associated with various player preferences to create a personal profile. The avatar will not only be stored in the console itself, but can be transferred to an unspecified amount of memory in the Wii Remote to make player settings both transferable and transportable. Stay with The Wiire for continuing updates on Mii and Wii. |
