Nintendo issued new additions and adjustments to the main Wii Menu and the Wii Shop Channel interfaces today. Users will need to select "Wii System Update" in the console's settings in order to benefit from the update, which will include the following features and modifications:
Wii Menu
- Digital Clock added to the Wii Menu right under the channel bar
- Forecast Channel now displays the user's current condition (cloudy, raining, etc.) directly in the Wii Menu in the Forecast Channel box
- News Channel can now show two scrolling headlines at a time in the Wii Menu, three when users click on the button
- The "Today's Accomplishments" message on Wii's Message Board now comes in a white envelope, whereas other messages come in a yellow envelope
- Address Book entries can now be shifted around using A+B, but only to empty spaces
- Calendar in Message Board no longer shows "Today's Accomplishment"-only days as having messages
- Scrolling messages in the Message Board now use a different sound
- USB keyboard support in Message Board (does not apply yet to Internet Channel; some keyboards may not be supported)
Wii Shop Channel
- New welcome screen lists four "Recommended Titles" and their cost in Wii Points, as well as the latest additions.
- "Titles You've Downloaded" moved to the main Shop menu
- Advanced browsing methods, such as: popular; genre; publisher; system; game title (partial names work); newest additions and category.
Users will need an Internet connection in order to perform the Wii System Update, which will take a few minutes to complete.
