NoE Reveals Wii Move You Campaign

By Shawn White / Saturday, 23 September 2006
According to New Media Age, Nintendo of Europe plans to place a strong emphasis on online advertising to sell the company's next-generation console, Wii.

"We're just in the final stages of putting our media plan together for Wii, but in terms of online our spend is way more than anything we've done before," said Robert Lowe, Nintendo's product manager for home consoles.

The campaign, titled "Wii Move you", will target larger Internet companies such as Lycos, Yahoo! and MSN. New Media Age also reported television spots for Wii advertising. A teaser campaign, specifically created for existing gamers, will begin in mid-October, with a broader push beginning closer to Europe's December launch.

"There will be three main channels through which we'll be communicate Wii - online, TV and sampling - and of the top line ad budget of 10m-11m [euros], leading up to the December launch, a large proportion is going online," Lowe explained. "Particularly over the launch week we'll completely take them over - you'll go online and see Wii everywhere."

Nintendo did not state if the "Wii Move You" campaign will apply only to Europe or if it will become a company-wide marketing strategy.
