Nintendo of America announced the inclusion of the Wii Remote Jacket in all hardware units, individually sold Wii Remotes and those bundled with Wii Play starting October 15. According to the company, the Wii Remote Jacket is "a durable, silicone cover for the Wii Remote that provides a variety of benefits for the player."![]() Pictured: The Wii Remote and new Jacket. The Wii Remote Jacket will provide cushioning for the controller should players accidentally throw or drop the device. Nintendo noted that while the Wii Remote Jacket will serve as an easy-to-remove cover, it will not replace the basic gameplay instructions of keeping a firm grip, using the wrist strap and ridding the playing area of hazardous obstructions. Current Wii owners can order the Wii Remote Jacket free of charge by visiting Nintendo's Web site or calling 1-866-431-8367 starting October 2. Shipments of the item will begin during the week of October 15. "We're always looking for ways to improve our products and make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Many electronics manufacturers provide similar protective covers for products like cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players." Just what the doctor ordered or a few months too late? The Wiire will keep you updated. |
