Wii Gives Home to Eternity's Child

By Shawn White / Monday, 10 September 2007
Publisher Alten8 has announced the development of Eternity's Child for Wii. The game is a 2D platformer based on a dark fairy tale from independent developer Luc Bernard.

Eternity's Child takes place in a world where vast amounts of pollution have melted the planet's icebergs and caused massive flooding. Many creatures have become extinct as a result and those with wings are at great risk of being killed by jealous land-dwellers. Mechanical robots were created in order to fill an emptying world, but they, too, lost control and began attacking the remaining inhabitants.

Players assume the role of Angel, an orphan who had his wings removed at birth to prevent an untimely death. Angel escapes from the orphanage after years of being ridiculed and seeks out the remaining members of his species in hopes of finding acceptance.

Eternity's Child was previously scheduled to be released on Xbox Live Arcade, but the file size limit of that platform resulted in the Wii and DS versions instead. The game will be entirely hand-drawn and animated; feature a orchestrated soundtrack and interludes where characters break into song, "like old disney [sic] films," and have a two player co-op mode, according to a press release. It is currently unknown whether or not there will be any interaction between the Wii and DS versions of the title.

Alten8 did not specify a release date for Eternity's Child in any territory.
