Opera is Free Until June 2007

By Eric Wright / Tuesday, 26 September 2006
Opera Software released some details on the pricing and functionality of the Wii Internet Channel. Gamers who want to try their hand at browsing the Web on Wii without spending their Wii Points will get a limited-time-only opportunity.

"Nintendo has stated that they will offer Opera free of charge as a temporary promotion for all Wii users until June 2007," reads an Opera press release. "From July 2007, users can purchase the Opera browser using Wii Points. Wii Points are credits users can buy that allow them to add new games or the Opera browser to their Wii consoles. The number of Wii Points required to purchase Opera has not yet been announced." Nintendo previously revealed that Wii Points can be purchased through pre-paid cards available at retail stores.

The Opera browser for Wii will support Flash and AJAX-based content, and come complete with "Zoom" and "Bookmarks" features.

The Opera press release can be read here.
