Fils-Aime: Complete Games from Wii to DS Possible

Update: According to a GameDaily.biz report, Nintendo has clarified Reggie Fils-Aime's statements regarding the future connectivity possibilities of Wii and DS.

"An article about the Nintendo DS video game system in the December 31 Business Day section (of the NYT) incorrectly referred to future capabilities of the device," a company representative told GameDaily.biz. "The statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company's Wii game console is incorrect. Users can download games to play on Wii, and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off."

Original story: Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime revealed a new tidbit regarding interaction between the Wii and DS during a conversation with the New York Times.

Fils-Aime spoke to the paper about the Everyone's Nintendo channel, which recently released in Japan. This channel allows Wii owners to view game previews and download demos to their DS handheld. According to Fils-Aime, gamers can expect to download "complete games" to their DS at some point in the future.

The NoA President offered no further details on the initiative. Whether Fils-Aime meant WiiWare games, Virtual Console games or some other software is uncertain. It may be worth noting, however, that Nintendo intends to add two more systems to the Virtual Console, as indicated by the company's Web site. Nintendo has not officially announced the new systems, and their identity - as well as relation to DS connectivity - remains unknown.

The Everyone's Nintendo channel has not yet received a release date for territories outside of Japan.
