Three words: Trans-Port Technology. Nyko is putting this tech to use in the Wand, allowing it to digitally transmit data to attachable peripherals that wasn't available with the previous Wii Remote. Certain commands like some of the face buttons, and force feedback vibrations can be transmitted through key action presses on these peripherals. The press release says it best:
The Wand contains Nyko's all-new Trans-PortTM technology, which enables control and vibration feedback to be electrically replicated on a compatible attachment accessory, providing for faster and more accurate input response. Current attachments made for the Wii Remote can only access buttons through use of mechanical triggers and provide no vibration feedback. One of the many potential uses of Trans-Port technology is a pistol grip that connects to the Wand and electrically replicates key action buttons, providing controls not currently accessible with attachments for the Wii Remote. In addition, enlarged 1 and 2 buttons make the Wand an exceptional choice for classic gaming control when turned sideways, complete with Nyko's signature rubberized battery cover to ensure maximum comfort and grip.
The Wand also includes a grippier, rubberized "B" button trigger and battery cover. It comes with larger buttons, possibly better for classic gaming.
Some may still prefer the Wii Remote, but based on what we're seeing here, don't rule out the Wand just yet. Nyko has proved in the past with the Wing that third-parties can make great peripherals, and we can expect the same level of craftsmanship to go into the Wand.
The Wand will be available in stores in April. No price has been revealed for it. Check out the presentation of the Nyko Wand at the Consumer Electronics Show here.
