SanDisk Announces Rock Band 2 SD Card

By Mike Suszek / Wednesday, 07 January 2009

rb2sdTo coincide with the continued growth of Nintendo's hit console and the knowledge of downloadable content being offered in the biggest music games, SanDisk announced a new Rock Band 2 SD card Tuesday.

What this newly branded SD card does that others doesn't goes without saying: nothing.  But when strutting your portable DLC around to your friends, a Rock Band 2 SD card will instantly make you the coolest kid on the block; or at least SanDisk will have you believe it.

At least this new card isn't laughably expensive.  At $12.99 for 2GB of storage space, there is more value to it than just the name.  Just don't think you're fooling anyone, SanDisk.

After all, they have tried this before, with even more ridiculous prices, from what I remember.  Though SD cards are important for the Wii, especially with a new firmware update around the corner unlocking their use, it is almost not fair to see a company taking advantage of the oft-unaware consumer that will think these specially-branded cards serve more purpose than any other.  At least some pieces of plastic will change your gaming experience... well, not always for the better.

It's not as though a company will make a "Wii TV" that is a normal television with the word "Wii" slapped on it.  Wii owners would be too smart to know that any TV will do.  Then again, we've seen worse, haven't we?
