Another Wii Strap Lawsuit Hits Nintendo

By Scott Barkman / Friday, 12 December 2008

Despite several revisions to that strap we've come to love/hate, the lawsuits keep on coming from sweaty palmed gamers everywhere. The most recent allegation comes from Colorado resident Molly Elvig, claiming the straps still aren't adequate despite being thicker and having the new plastic clasp.be

Elvig is also claiming that Nintendo failed to report continued strap failures to the Consumer Product Safety Commission despite evidence that Nintendo knew they were continuing to happen.

There's an interesting discussion hidden in this whole wrist strap saga. When does the manufacturers responsibility end, and consumer responsibility begin? Are manufacturers the end all be all of product safety? For example, should automobile manufacturers be responsible for collisions where the driver is driving too aggressively?

The wrist strap has always been a backup fail safe in case the user let go of the Wii remote. There has to be this point of "mistake" on the users end before the strap is ever utilized. So should Nintendo be held accountable after several improvements were made to the strap? Share your opinions below.
