Atari officially announced today that it will revive the cult classic boxing franchise Ready 2 Rumble, publishing the game exclusively for Wii in 2009.
Unlike previous iterations of the series developed by Midway, AKI will develop the game. AKI is well known for developing several critically acclaimed wrestling titles for the N64 in the late 90's, so the Ready 2 Rumble series appears to be a natural fit for the company.
AKI will develop the game under the title of Ready 2 Rumble: Revolution. The game will feature a playable cast of 20 boxers, all of whom are parodies of real figures from the sports and entertainment worlds. Just who will be involved, you ask? From the screen above, we see "Dewie Streudel" and "Syphon Cruel", parodies of David Hasselhoff and Simon Cowell.
In the screens below we also see Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and snowboarder Shaun White parodied.
Ready 2 Rumble Revolution will make use of the Wii's motion-sensing capabilities to create boxing gloves with the Wiimote and nunchuck, however this may be another reason to consider picking up Everlast's Wii boxing gloves.
