NASCAR Comes to Wii

By Andrew Clark / Tuesday, 25 November 2008

Itchin' to play a NASCAR title on the Wii that will allow that wheel you got for Mario Kart to get some work? Well EA intends to release a NASCAR game, sorta. Instead of taking the traditional route, of creating a game where players can be any of the officially licensed NASCAR drivers (is there any reason NOT to be Jimmy Johnson?), and drive their official cars, EA Sports has yet again chosen to take an alternative path.

Instead, players will drive karts around, with possible caricatures of drivers. No telling yet if heads of drivers will be massively oversized to balance out the cartoonish nature of the karts. While the karts may resemble an idea from Mario Kart, most likely the tracks will remain the same oval shape, true to the NASCAR way.

This announcement comes after EA recently announced it was eyeing Wii Fit with its new Active Sports franchise.  As EA Sports closes the gap to capitalize on the Mario Kart crowd, it's only a matter of time until you're throwing turtle shells at Tony Stewart. The game is slated for a February 12th release in 2009.

What do you think of EA taking on this angle, and yet again eyeing a popular Nintendo franchise model for a game?  Let us know in the comments below.
