2D Castlevania May Be Headed To WiiWare

By Skylar Wilcox / Friday, 25 July 2008
The games we play are made available because a developer had an idea and saw a market for it.  Lately WiiWare has provided the market to give several developers the idea of new 2D console games, as evidenced by LostWinds and the upcoming Mega Man 9.  Now Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi is thinking of adding Castlevania to the list.

First he told MTV Multiplayer that he's "definitely interested in WiiWare and I think it's one of the areas that 2D can still be very strong...I'm very much looking into that."  Then, on the subject of Mega Man 9, he remarked to Wired that he's "watching that very closely to see how it does. Myself, I'm a big retro gaming fan, so if it is successful, that definitely opens up doors for what I can do."

With enough support for the developers who try it, WiiWare may just bring a revival of 2D gaming on consoles.  It's partly up to us to decide.
What should Nintendo's New Year's Resolution be?
