The massively-multiplayer blockbuster World of Warcraft and the rhythm game Audiosurf are two popular games that haven't yet found their way to the Wii, but thanks to some clever programmers, you can now control them with the Balance Board. Several groups have developed hacks that allow the board to work with the PC games, offering a new way to control movement in each game. Below, a German group demonstrates their project, which works with both World of Warcraft and Google Earth: It's a bit simplistic, only replacing mouse movement, but it's a start. The Audiosurf project, called BodySurf, also adds a control scheme that uses only the Wii Remote to control nearly every function in the game. It's a more intriguing look into how Nintendo controllers can be (unofficially) modified to enhance games on other platforms. As long as Nintendo doesn't get sue-happy about it (they've been rather protective of their controllers lately), you might soon see a new way to play your favorite computer games. |
