NiGHTS Wii: Two Control Schemes, More User-Friendly

By Shawn White / Wednesday, 25 April 2007
In an interview with NGamer magazine, NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams Project Lead Takeshi Iizuka discussed the two control schemes incorporated into the game, how the team aims to make the sequel more user-friendly and the return of the original NiGHTS composer.

"We're currently designing the game to be played with two control configurations," Iizuka said. "Our main focus is to design the game to be played with the Wii Remote but for those gamers that are more comfortable using a more 'traditional-style' controller configuration, they will be able to plug the Nunchuk into the Wii Remote as well."

As a way of extending his "thanks and appreciation for all those fans that waiting all this time for the sequel," Iizuka noted that the Wii title will retain the fundamental game concepts established by the original NiGHTS. He admitted, however, that the first game lacked full user-friendliness, as "it was often difficult for the player to figure out what to do or where to go next." To overcome this in Journey into Dreams, he explained, the game will be "built around a dramatic storyline that will engage the player and guide them intuitively through the adventure."

Iizuka also confirmed that Naofumi Hataya, the original composer for NiGHTS, will return for Journey into Dreams. "Since the game structure is completely revamped as we added a lot more game volume, we realistically didn't expect to do the same things we did in the original NiGHTS," Iizuka stated. "We like the mood-enhancing soundtrack feature very much and want to do something very special collaborating with Mr. Hataya."

SEGA recently released a number of official screenshots for Journey into Dreams, which can be viewed here.
