Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced the development of Speed Racer for Wii. The game, expected to arrive next year, is based on the upcoming film of the same name. According to Warner Bros. Interactive, "players will be able to take on the role of the characters from the film, getting behind the wheels of each character's signature vehicles to experience firsthand the film's high-adrenaline, combative racing style." The Wachowski brothers, directors of The Matrix trilogy, will lend direction and movie assets to Sidhe Interactive for Speed Racer's development. "Speed Racer is an exceptionally creative property and teamed with the Wachowski brothers' vision it makes for action-packed racing gameplay," said Samantha Ryan, senior vice president of Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The game will capture the intensity of the racing in the film to give gamers and movie fans a chance to take the wheel after they experience the film." Speed Racer, produced by Joel Silver and directed by the Wachowski brothers, will be a live-action family adventure movie following the life of young race car driver Speed as he pursues glory on and off the track in his specialized Mach 5 vehicle. The film is based on the original animated series created by Tatsuo Yoshida. Will Speed Racer deliver a new level of adrenaline to Wii racers or crash before reaching the finish line? The Wiire will keep you informed. |
