The Wiire Team

The Wiire has a strong, dedicated team working to bring the best Wii coverage on the web.  Founded by Ian Mikutel and launched on July 1st, 2005, The Wiire has grown to be one of the most popular sources of Wii information on the Web through the efforts of a passionate group of developers, writers, designers, and other individuals.

If you're interested in joining the team, we're always looking for more talented people to join The Wiire, so head on over to our staff application right now!

Our History

The Wiire began as an idea on May 17, 2005, and continues expanding the vision to the gaming site it is today. I spent much of my time discussing the Wii (at that time code-named Revolution) on various online communities, but my searches for a dedicated Wii Web site turned up dry. I brought up the idea of starting my own to the message board gaming communities and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

Feeding off this enthusiasm, I recruited some of my old colleagues and brought in talented staff from all over the world with experience in their fields. From there, we began development of the original site. After more than a month of hard work, The Wiire, formerly known as Revolution Report, opened to the public on July 1st, 2005. We received tremendously positive feedback from our readers on our quality Wii coverage and our weekly podcasts—two staples of the site we’ve continued to deliver for over three years now.

We've been in attendance and provided coverage at many games industry conventions, including Leipzig Games Convention 2005, Tokyo Game Show 2005, D.I.C.E 2006, GDC 2006, E3 2006 (extensive coverage), GDC 2007, PAX 2006, PAX 2007 and PAX 2008. As the site continually expands, members of The Wiire’s staff will attend most, if not all future industry events in order to provide the most up-to-date news as well as in-depth interviews and features.

In November, 2008, The Wiire launched Version 4 (v4).  A major overhaul to its predecessor, it is the best web site we have ever made. It represents the culmination of three prior years experience in developing the leading Wii publication on the web.  v4 introduced a new blog style to The Wiire's content, giving a more personal, conversational voice to the quality Wii reporting readers have come to love from us.

Also introduced in v4 was an improved review system, introduction of video content, adoption of social networking services such as Twitter and Facebook, and implementation of a revolutionary new comment system powered by Intense Debate.  For a full tour of what makes v4 the best web site The Wiire has ever made, watch the video tour.

Our goal is to provide uncompromised views without the influence of outside involvement, providing gamers with ethical practices you can always rely on.  With that vision, we hope to continue to be the leading independent Wii destination on the web, offering the most up-to-date news, weekly podcasts, reviews, analysis and an engaging community.

I hope you all continue to enjoy The Wiire, and on behalf of the whole team, I thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Ian Mikutel
